BOISE, Idaho – A Meridian couple is facing consequences for their role in a plot to obtain controlled substances through fraudulent means.
Kellie Cansaydee Sebastian, 33, and Ramon Leon Garcia, 28, both of Meridian, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to obtain a controlled substance by fraud, U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis announced.
The indictment was handed down in May 2017, and Sebastian pleaded guilty on yesterday, while Garcia pleaded guilty on September 19, 2017.
Sebastian, employed as a medical assistant for a local doctor, had the ability to print out prescriptions using the doctor’s information and the name of his practice. She printed out prescriptions for controlled substances and provided them to her co-conspirator, Ramon Garcia. Garcia took the prescriptions to different pharmacies and attempted to fill them, including one for 120 tablets of oxycodone 20mg that he successfully filled.
The charge of conspiracy to obtain a controlled substance by fraud is punishable by up to four years in prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and a term of up to one year of supervised release.
Sebastian is set to be sentenced on February 6, 2018, while Garcia’s sentencing is scheduled for December 7, 2017, both before Senior U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Boise.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) led Tactical Diversion Squad, which includes law enforcement from the DEA, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
