Casey Allen Heflin, Bank Robbery, Illinois 2013

A brazen bank robbery shook the small town of Harrisburg, Illinois, when a Kentucky man stormed into the Old National Bank branch facility in October 2013.

Casey Allen Heflin, 28, of Boaz, Kentucky, was behind the mask that day, entering the bank with a loaded firearm and pointing it at a teller, demanding money. A total of $4,197 was taken.

Heflin, who has been held without bond in the custody of the United States Marshal since his arrest in March, pleaded guilty yesterday in United States District Court in East St. Louis to an indictment charging him with the robbery.

As part of his plea, Heflin admitted to the crime, which was alleged by a Federal Grand Jury on March 4, 2014. The indictment alleged that Heflin robbed the bank on October 17, 2013.

Now, Heflin faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release to follow his incarceration. Sentencing is set for September 24, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the United States District Courthouse in East St. Louis.

The on-going federal investigation into the robbery is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Illinois State Police Zone 7 Investigations unit in Carmi, and the United States Attorney’s Office.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin. The public is encouraged to follow the Southern District of Illinois news for updates on this and other cases.
