A brutal assault in Southeast Washington has landed a local woman in the slammer for four years. Kesha Honesty, 48, was sentenced to a four-year prison term for assaulting her neighbor with a hammer last spring.
According to authorities, the assault occurred on May 21, 2022, at approximately 6:40 p.m. outside an apartment building in the 5100 block of Fitch Street SE. The victim, a woman, was hospitalized for almost four months and underwent approximately 10 different surgeries and procedures.
The victim, who is now partially paralyzed on the left side of her body, will require assistance for the remainder of her life.
Honesty pleaded guilty in August 2022, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, to assault with a dangerous weapon. She was sentenced on October 25, 2022, by the Honorable Jason Park.
Following her prison term, Honesty will be placed on three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department Robert J. Contee III commended the work of those who investigated the case. They also expressed appreciation for the work of those who handled the case at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Honesty’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violent crime. As our community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this assault, we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of justice.
