Kevin Andre Parks, Bank Robbery, Pennsylvania 2012

Hazleton Man Sentenced to 60 Months for Bank Robbery in Pennsylvania

Kevin Andre Parks, 41, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 60 months in prison for the September 7, 2012, robbery of the First National Community Bank in Hazleton.

According to United States Attorney Peter J. Smith, Parks entered the bank and stated to one of the tellers, ‘Give me all your cash, I have a gun.’ Parks then patted his right pants pocket before fleeing to Scranton, where he was arrested and found in possession of $3,199 in bank robbery proceeds.

Parks did not possess a weapon at the time of his arrest, which was a key factor in his sentencing. Senior United States District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik also ordered that Parks be placed on supervised release for a period of three years following the service of his sentence.

The case was investigated by special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Scranton Police Department, and the Hazleton Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus prosecuted the case.

Parks’ sentence reflects the severity of the crime, which put the safety of bank employees and customers at risk. The 60-month sentence is a reminder that bank robbery will not be tolerated in our community.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of community partnership in preventing and investigating crimes. The cooperation between local law enforcement agencies and federal authorities was instrumental in bringing Parks to justice.
