PITTSBURGH – In a shocking case of repeat offender, Ivan Villegas-Estrella, a 26-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to time served for illegally re-entering the United States.
According to court documents, Ivan Villegas-Estrella has a history of deportation, with a staggering five removals from the country between 2008 and 2014.
The most recent deportation occurred on April 24, 2014, but Villegas-Estrella was found to be illegally present in Freeport, Pennsylvania, on May 12, 2015.
U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Ivan Villegas-Estrella, which is considered time served.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul E. Hull prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, for their role in the successful prosecution of Ivan Villegas-Estrella.
This case highlights the importance of immigration enforcement and the consequences of repeatedly violating U.S. immigration laws.
