Navajo Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Child Assault
In a disturbing case of child abuse, Kevin Ernest Lewis, a 32-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, has been sentenced to five years in prison for assaulting a minor in Indian Country.
According to court records, on February 5, 2020, Lewis pleaded guilty to the charge of assault of a minor resulting in substantial bodily injury in Indian Country. In a shocking admission, Lewis stated that he hit his then-girlfriend while she was holding their four-month-old child. During the attack, Lewis knocked the child onto the ground, causing the infant to suffer a skull fracture and intracranial bleeding.
The crime occurred on the Navajo Nation in McKinley County, New Mexico, and was investigated by the Navajo Nation Tribal Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allison C. Jaros prosecuted this case.
