Kevin McCree Indicted for Sex Offender Registration Violation

PITTSBURGH – In a grim reminder of the consequences of failing to comply with federal sex offender registration laws, Kevin McCree, 30, from Turtle Creek, PA, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on December 10, 2013. The charge against McCree: failing to register as a convicted sex offender.

McCree’s troubles began in 2007 when he was convicted in Utah of the felony sex offenses of Enticing a Minor over the Internet and Dealing in Material Harmful to a Minor. According to the indictment, between March 2013 and December 10, 2013, McCree traveled across state lines without registering as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

The gravity of this offense is underscored by the potential sentence McCree now faces. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to ten years in federal prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the crime and any prior criminal history.

Assistant United States Attorney Amy L. Johnston is leading the prosecution against McCree. The investigation that led to his indictment was conducted by the United States Marshals Service.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder that the federal government takes the issue of sex offender registration seriously and will hold individuals accountable for failing to comply with SORNA’s requirements.

An indictment is merely an accusation. McCree is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
