ALBANY, NEW YORK – The grim reaper of justice has dealt a heavy blow to the sex predator Kevin Smurphat. The 35-year-old resident of Whitehall, New York, faces a chilling sentence of 15 years in the clink for his heinous acts of possessing and distributing child pornography.
In a shocking revelation, Smurphat admitted to using his cellphone while on state parole to upload sexually explicit images of minors to a file-hosting service. The parolee’s descent into darkness didn’t stop there; he also joined a group chat where he traded pedophilic material with other predators and received child pornography as well.
US Attorney Carla B. Freedman and FBI Special Agent Craig L. Tremaroli made the chilling announcement, emphasizing that Smurphat’s actions were part of his guilty plea. The previously convicted sex offender’s parole was a mere facade for his true intentions, as he sought to continue his predatory behavior.
But justice has its way of catching up with the worst of humanity. Alongside his imprisonment term, Smurphat will be under supervised release for an additional 15 years and must pay $7,000 in restitution to his victims. The FBI’s relentless investigation into this case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative aimed at putting predators like Smurphat behind bars.
