Kimberley Mozie, Oxycodone Distribution, West Virginia 2017

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Monongalia County woman was sentenced to three years’ probation for her role in a local oxycodone distribution ring.

Kimberley Mozie, 39, of Morgantown, West Virginia, was found guilty of ‘Aiding and Abetting Distribution of Oxycodone’ in October 2019. The charge stems from her involvement in the distribution of oxycodone in March 2017 in Monongalia County.

According to court records, Mozie admitted to participating in the distribution of the highly addictive painkiller. U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the case.

The investigation, which led to Mozie’s conviction, was conducted by the Mon Metro Drug and Violent Crime Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative. The federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF) also provided critical funding and coordination for the investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Mozie was sentenced to three years’ probation, with the first four months to be served on home detention.

While Mozie’s sentence may seem lenient to some, law enforcement officials say it’s a significant victory in the ongoing fight against opioid trafficking. ‘It’s a great day when we can hold accountable those who contribute to the opioid epidemic,’ said U.S. Attorney Bill Powell in a statement.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies in combating major crimes.
