Kirksville Man Charged with Enticement of a Minor

A 46-year-old Kirksville man has been taken into federal custody after being charged with enticing a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct, according to court documents.

Scott Walsh, 46, was arrested and is facing a minimum of 25 years in prison if convicted of the charge under Title 18, United States Code Section 2251(a), punishable under Section 2251(e).

The allegations against Walsh state that he contacted a minor online and caused the child to produce an obscene video of himself, which was then shared with Walsh.

This is not Walsh’s first brush with the law, as he is a prior sexual offender. The case was investigated by the Kirksville Police Department, the Shelbina Police Department, and the FBI, in cooperation with the Adair County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Lang is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which is part of the nationwide effort to develop and prosecute cases involving child pornography and exploitation known as Project Safe Childhood.

U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen praised the efforts of Project Safe Childhood and its partner agencies in developing these difficult cases, stating that the allegations in this indictment are every parent’s nightmare.

The case highlights the ongoing struggle to protect children from online predators and the importance of continued vigilance in developing and prosecuting cases involving child exploitation.

The indictment against Walsh serves as a reminder that those who prey on children will be held accountable for their actions and face severe consequences.
