A grand jury has returned a one-count indictment charging Kison Robertson, 23, of Cleveland, with escape from Oriana Halfway House, according to Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio.
The indictment alleges that Robertson, who was being held at the Oriana Halfway House, escaped from the facility. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. McDonough, who will seek to prove Robertson’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.
The investigation was conducted by agents of the United States Marshals Service, who worked to gather evidence and build a case against Robertson. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio is committed to holding individuals accountable for their actions, and this indictment is a step towards ensuring that justice is served.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Robertson will have the opportunity to defend himself against the charges and present his side of the story in court.
The case against Kison Robertson is a reminder that escape from a halfway house is a serious offense, and those who commit such crimes will be held accountable. The community can be assured that law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to investigate and prosecute these types of crimes, and to ensure that justice is served.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio will continue to work to protect the community and uphold the law. The case against Kison Robertson is an example of the office’s commitment to prosecuting those who commit crimes and ensuring that they are held accountable for their actions.
