Raleigh Man Sentenced for Child Pornography
A Raleigh man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in the possession and distribution of child pornography. Klaus De La Fuente, age 27, was found guilty of these crimes after an investigation by the Cary Police Department and the Department of Homeland Security.
The investigation, which began on April 1, 2022, revealed that De La Fuente was using peer-to-peer file sharing networks to receive and distribute child pornography. Law enforcement officers identified child pornography files associated with De La Fuente’s IP address, leading to a search warrant being executed at his residence.
Upon searching De La Fuente’s residence, law enforcement officers seized multiple digital devices, including a cell phone that was actively downloading child pornography at the time. A forensic examination of these devices revealed that De La Fuente had been collecting child sexual abuse images since 2018 and had amassed a large collection of images and videos.
According to court documents, De La Fuente possessed 8,839 images and 278 videos depicting child sexual abuse, including very young children, infants, and toddlers. This collection of images and videos is a stark reminder of the severity of this crime and the need for continued efforts to combat child exploitation.
The case against De La Fuente was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charity Wilson, and was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Cary and Raleigh Police Departments, the United States’ Marshals Service, and the Department of Homeland Security investigated the case.
As part of his sentence, De La Fuente will also be required to pay $81,000 in restitution. This is a significant step towards holding those responsible for child exploitation accountable and providing justice for the victims.
