A disturbing pattern of violence has come to an end for a man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, after he was sentenced to two years in federal prison for repeatedly threatening to kill a victim.
Kyle Ryan Cook, 36, received the prison term after a guilty plea to one count of interstate communications with a threat to injure on October 31, 2025.
Evidence presented in court showed that between May and June 2025, Cook made graphic and specific threats to kill a victim via Facebook Messenger. The threats were so severe that after his arrest, Cook told federal agents that he was going to kill the victim and ‘put her six feet in the ground.’
Cook’s long history of violent convictions is a concerning factor in this case. With a total of 21 adult convictions, including battery, disorderly conduct, domestic abuse, and assault causing bodily injury, it is clear that Cook has a pattern of violent behavior.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Cook was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 24 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Cook is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
