Victor Villarreal, a 30-year-old from Sioux City, Iowa, has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a felon. The sentencing took place on September 16, 2025 in the United States District Court in Sioux City.
Villarreal pleaded guilty to the charges on September 16, 2025. The evidence presented in the case showed that on May 4, 2025, Villarreal had become intoxicated and violent, pulling a gun on his children’s mother and threatening others, including minors. The babysitter had called 911 for help, and law enforcement responded to the scene. Villarreal fled the scene in another person’s car and led officers on a pursuit before being taken into custody.
According to the evidence, Villarreal was a felon and subject to an active no-contact order, both of which precluded his lawful possession of a firearm. The investigation was led by the Sioux City, Iowa Police Department and the United States Department of Justice’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
Villarreal’s sentence includes 37 months of imprisonment, followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime.
Villarreal is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case number is 25-4044, and more information can be found at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
