GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Julien Jitt Noel, 36, of Placentia, California, has been found guilty of federal tax fraud charges for orchestrating a scheme that sought over $800,000 in refunds. The scam involved filing false tax returns in the names of stolen identities, claiming employment with non-existent companies.
Noel and his co-conspirators filed 114 fraudulent returns, with the IRS suffering actual losses of $520,426. Sentencing is set for June 14, where Noel faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
The scheme began in 2008-2009, with Picaso Fashions being used as a shell company for fraudulent returns. Another 45 fraudulent returns were filed using other fake companies between 2009 and 2010.
Antonio Jerome Cook, 38, was sentenced to four years in federal prison and ordered to pay $537,309, while Rebecca Magruder, 38, of Dallas, Texas, received 18 months and was ordered to pay $119,671. All three were investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation.
Noel has been in federal custody since the case was indicted two years ago, facing a sentence that could alter his life forever for what turned out to be an elaborate fraud plot.
