BECKLEY, West Virginia – In a shocking turn of events, La Percy Allen, 42, a Toledo, Ohio man, pleaded guilty to federal drug and gun crimes in a West Virginia court. According to court documents, Allen admitted to selling a total of approximately 30 grams of fentanyl and 53 grams of heroin to an undercover informant working with law enforcement on multiple occasions in July and August 2021.
The charges against Allen include distribution of fentanyl and being a felon in possession of a firearm. As per court records, Allen was in possession of approximately 53 grams of fentanyl on August 10, 2021, that he intended to sell, along with a loaded firearm. This is a serious offense, considering Allen’s 2013 felony conviction in Ohio for trafficking heroin, which prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
Allen’s guilty plea has significant implications, as he faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 13, 2022. This severe punishment serves as a deterrent to others who engage in similar illicit activities.
The success of this case is a testament to the collaboration and dedication of law enforcement agencies in West Virginia. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Beckley Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department, the West Virginia State Police, and the Beckley Police Department all played crucial roles in the investigation and prosecution of this case.
United States Attorney Will Thompson praised the investigative work of the involved agencies and commended their efforts in bringing Allen to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney L. Cremeans is prosecuting the case.
