A devastating fentanyl trafficking case has ended in a severe sentence for a Texas man. Ladraelyn Bolar, 34, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for his role in selling the deadly substance to an 18-year-old girl who ultimately died of an overdose.
The tragic event occurred in March 2024 when an undercover ATF agent, introduced by a confidential informant, purchased 100 M-30 fentanyl pills from Bolar for $250 or $2.50 per pill. Later that day, Bolar offered the agent a ‘k-pack’ of 1,000 fentanyl pills, which the agent bought for $1,400 or approximately $1.55 per pill.
The evidence in the case revealed that just five days prior to the undercover purchase, the friend of a woman who died from a fentanyl overdose told officers that she and the victim had purchased the offending pills from Bolar.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives’ Dallas Field Division and the Fort Worth Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Levi Thomas prosecuted the case with the assistance of Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn Smith.
Ladraelyn Bolar was charged via criminal complaint in April and pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl.
According to plea papers, Bolar admitted he conspired with others to distribute fentanyl and acknowledged selling blue M-30 pills containing fentanyl to an undercover ATF agent on March 25, 2024.
The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Leigha Simonton, announced the sentencing, which was handed down by senior U.S. District Judge Terry R. Means.
