Ladson Man Accused of Fentanyl Distribution

Ladson, SC – A grim reminder of the drug crisis swept across America as Robert Mansfield, 60, of Ladson, South Carolina, finds himself in hot water after being charged with federal drug offenses. The United States Attorney Beth Drake announced today that Mansfield is accused of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute fentanyl, a highly dangerous and addictive substance.

Mansfield made his initial appearance in federal court this afternoon. A detention hearing and preliminary hearing have been scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 3, 2017, where the fate of this alleged drug kingpin will be further discussed.

The investigation into Mansfield’s activities has been a collaborative effort by Special Agents from ICE-Homeland Security Investigations, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. These agencies have joined forces to crack down on the drug trade in the region.

Assistant United States Attorney Nick Bianchi of the Charleston office is handling the prosecution of this case with a stern hand. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has emphasized that all charges against Mansfield are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty, a principle that must be upheld under our justice system.

As the community grapples with the growing drug epidemic, Mansfield’s arrest serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in illegal drug activities. The grimy streets of Ladson have yet another black mark on their record as they continue to battle the pervasive threat of substance abuse.
