Lamar Jacquise Floyd, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, North Carolina 2022

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Lamar Jacquise Floyd, 28, of York, South Carolina, is headed to prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Floyd was sentenced to 100 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a felon, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

On December 9, 2022, at approximately 9:23 a.m., Hickory Police Department patrol officers responded to a call for service at a McDonald’s restaurant in reference to a suspicious person with a firearm. Responding officers identified Floyd as the person reported in the service call.

The officers retrieved a firearm, along with two loaded magazines, ammunition, narcotics, and approximately $1,860 in U.S. currency from Floyd’s person.

Floyd has previous state convictions for narcotics and firearms violations and is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Boykin of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. Floyd’s sentence is a prime example of the consequences for those who continue to possess firearms despite prior convictions.

U.S. Attorney King thanked the ATF and the Hickory Police Department for their investigation and prosecution of the case.
