Lamar Redfield: 65 Months for Gun, Crash, and Assault

WASHINGTON D.C. – A repeat offender is off the streets after receiving a hefty sentence for a brazen October 2024 incident. Lamar Redfield, 34, of the District of Columbia, was sentenced today to 65 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The sentence comes after Redfield crashed a stolen vehicle, ditched a loaded handgun, and then punched a Metropolitan Police Department officer in the face, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Redfield pleaded guilty May 12, 2025, before U.S. District Court Judge Loren L. AliKhan. In addition to the prison term, Judge AliKhan ordered three years of supervised release upon Redfield’s eventual release. The incident began on Oct. 21, 2024, when officers from the MPD’s Sixth District Crime Suppression Team spotted a stolen black Hyundai Sonata on the 3100 block of Minnesota Ave. SE. It was a short-lived pursuit.

Court documents detail a reckless scene. As officers approached, the Hyundai reversed onto A Street, SE, before crashing into a parked vehicle. The passenger immediately fled, leaving Redfield behind the wheel. Redfield abandoned the wrecked Sonata and took off running, repeatedly reaching into his jacket. Officers observed him discard a black Glock 17 pistol onto the ground before continuing his escape attempt. That’s when things escalated.

The fleeing Redfield then turned and violently struck one of the pursuing officers in the face with a closed fist. The assault didn’t deter the officers, who quickly subdued and detained Redfield. A subsequent search revealed he was also carrying half an ounce of suspected methamphetamine and one ounce of suspected synthetic cannabinoids – commonly known as “K2” or “Spice.” The drugs added another layer to his already mounting legal troubles.

This wasn’t Redfield’s first brush with the law. He already had prior felony convictions in Arlington County, Virginia, related to narcotics and firearms offenses. He was, in fact, serving a five-year suspended sentence at the time of his October arrest. The system gave him a chance, and he clearly squandered it. The 65-month sentence sends a clear message: repeat offenders will face serious consequences.

The investigation was a joint effort between the Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI Washington Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole prosecuted the case. Case number: 24cr478. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available. This incident highlights the ongoing struggle to keep illegal firearms off the streets and protect law enforcement officers from violent criminals.
