BUFFALO, N.Y. — Da’Ron Lipscomb, a 33-year-old from Lancaster, NY, has been sentenced to serve six months in prison after leading law enforcement on a harrowing high-speed chase from an immigration checkpoint.
The sentencing comes after Lipscomb was convicted of high speed flight from an immigration checkpoint, according to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo. The incident occurred on June 26, 2024, when Lipscomb drove through the Peace Bridge Port of Entry in Buffalo, ignoring a Customs and Border Protection officer’s directive for secondary inspection.
Instead of submitting to further scrutiny, Lipscomb revved his engine onto the I-190, disregarding speed limits. He was pursued by CBP vehicles until his vehicle lost control, leading to a crash. Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly handled the case, emphasizing that Lipscomb’s actions endangered both himself and law enforcement.
The investigation into Lipscomb’s crime was led by Customs and Border Protection under Director of Field Operations Rose Brophy. The severity of Lipscomb’s sentence reflects the gravity of his offense and the risks associated with such a reckless pursuit.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara presided over the sentencing, ensuring that justice was served for the law enforcement personnel involved in the chase as well as the public safety threat posed by Lipscomb’s actions.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who attempt to evade immigration authorities and the dedication of those who work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law.
