The Florida sun beats down, but it offers no warmth when you consider the chill this man casts. Lanmo Sanjou, a name whispered with dread in certain circles, is now a priority one fugitive. The FBI wants him, and they want him bad. He’s accused of being the architect of a particularly brutal act of desperation: the kidnapping of seventeen Christian missionaries in Haiti back in October 2021. Seventeen souls, including babies, held for ransom, their lives hanging by a thread while Sanjou and his gang, 400 Mawozo, played a sick game of negotiation. Sixty-one days those innocents spent captive, staring down the barrels of guns, praying for a miracle.
Sanjou, born in Haiti on February 28, 1993, isn’t a ghost. He leaves a trail, a map etched onto his very skin. Five foot seven to five foot ten, around 150 pounds, with brown eyes that have likely seen too much. But it’s the ink that will give him away. A skull on his right calf, a snake winding around the left. A knife on the right forearm, a spider web on the shoulder, sleeves of cursive writing crawling up his left arm, and stars and more writing blooming across his chest. Scars, too, crisscross his body—a testament to a life lived on the edge, a life soaked in violence. He’s reportedly battling kidney issues, a vulnerability that doesn’t diminish the threat he poses.
The feds believe Sanjou may be laying low in Florida, but intelligence suggests possible connections, or travel, to the Dominican Republic. He’s a predator who knows how to move, how to disappear. But nowhere is truly safe for a man wanted for hostage taking, for terrorizing families, for turning faith into a bargaining chip. The Department of State is offering up to $1 million for information leading to his arrest or conviction. A million dollars to bring a monster to justice, to give some measure of peace to those he traumatized.
This isn’t some abstract case, some bureaucratic exercise. This is about real people, real fear, and real consequences. Sanjou is considered armed and dangerous. Approach with extreme caution, if you approach at all. He’s a man who allegedly believes in taking what he wants, and he’s proven he’s willing to use force to get it.
If you have any information, no matter how small, regarding the whereabouts of Lanmo Sanjou, contact the FBI immediately. Don’t wait. Don’t hesitate. A life, or lives, may depend on it.
