Larry Gene Charley, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, New Mexico 2022

Larry Gene Charley, 60, of Sundance, New Mexico, is behind bars after allegedly stabbing a man in the chest in a violent altercation at a home on Roadrunner Road in Sundance on October 21, 2022.

According to a federal complaint, Charley, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, entered the victim’s home and walked to a bedroom where he found the victim lying in bed. Charley allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest before two other residents in the home heard the scuffle and forced him from the house.

The victim, also an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, suffered serious injuries during the altercation, including a collapsed lung. He was transported to Gallup Indian Medical Center for care.

The incident occurred on the Navajo Nation, and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case.

Larry Gene Charley will remain in custody pending a preliminary and detention hearing scheduled for November 1, 2022.

If convicted, Charley faces up to 10 years in prison for the assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury charges.

A complaint is only an allegation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly Bell.
