A 65-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years and six months in prison for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in New Mexico.
Larry Nathaniel, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was sentenced on August 25 in federal court for abusive sexual contact of a minor in Indian Country.
The abuse occurred on February 24, 2019, at the family home of the victim in San Juan County on the Navajo Nation, according to court records.
Nathaniel held down the victim by the arm and touched her genitalia at the time of the abuse.
He pleaded guilty to the charges on February 2 and was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison, according to a federal court official.
After his release from prison, Nathaniel will be subject to five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.
The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Nayback prosecuted the case.
