A former Texas high school coach, Kenneth Wayne Mulkey, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for attempting to coerce and entice a minor. The disturbing incident occurred on October 11, 2024, when Mulkey, 44, used Snapchat to ask a 14-year-old boy in Orlando, Florida, for his age, sex, and location. After the boy revealed his age, Mulkey, who claimed to be a 40-year-old football and track coach, requested a sexually explicit photo of the minor.
Mulkey’s messages were sent from near Sabinal High School, where he worked at the time. The next day, he sent a sexually graphic photo of himself to the boy, asking questions and sharing explicit information. Mulkey was arrested on January 31, 2025, and later indicted on February 19, 2025. He pleaded guilty to one of the two counts on August 11, 2025.
The investigation was conducted by ICE Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando and the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nallely Duarte prosecuted the case, which was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons commended the law enforcement partners who worked on the case, ensuring that a child predator was brought to justice. Mulkey’s sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the need to protect children from predators like him.
