Redus Duncan Smith, a 28-year-old from Clifton, Texas, has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison for possessing and distributing child pornography. On February 24, 2025, Smith sent a private message on KIK containing a video file depicting child sexual abuse, and later sent additional files showing toddlers and prepubescent children being sexually assaulted. An investigation by the FBI determined that Smith was intent on teaching others how to groom children for sexual abuse.
On August 26, 2025, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Smith’s home, seizing digital devices containing over 858 images and 704 videos of child sexual abuse material. Smith was arrested during the search and later pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of visual depictions of sexual activities by minors and one count of possession of visual depictions of sexual activities by minors.
U.S. District Judge Alan D. Albright sentenced Smith to two consecutive 240-month terms of imprisonment, followed by 20 years of supervised release. Smith was also ordered to pay $33,000 in restitution. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The FBI investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Gloff prosecuting. The sentence reflects the severity of Smith’s crimes and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
