David Medina, Child Pornography Distribution, Texas 2024

David Medina, a 36-year-old man from Corpus Christi, Texas, is behind bars on federal child pornography charges after a years-long investigation uncovered a vast digital archive of illegal material tied to multiple residences and devices.

Authorities arrested Medina this morning following the filing of a criminal complaint that accuses him of distributing child pornography on at least two occasions. He is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge B. Janice Ellington at 2:00 p.m. today. The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick.

The investigation began in September 2016 when the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force targeted file-sharing networks. Agents downloaded numerous images of child pornography traced to an IP address linked to Medina. A subsequent search warrant led to the seizure of digital devices from his home, revealing more than 3,500 images and 28 videos of child pornography.

A second probe in 2017 uncovered another computer sharing illicit material, this time connected to a different Corpus Christi residence tied to Medina. Investigators seized his cell phone, which allegedly contained over 1,000 images and 95 videos of child pornography.

On February 21, 2018, agents responded to a tip that child pornography was being downloaded at a Corpus Christi hotel. Medina was renting a room there, and his laptop was seized as part of the investigation. Evidence from the device is currently being analyzed.

Medina faces a minimum of five years and up to 20 years in federal prison, along with a maximum fine of $250,000 if convicted. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hugo R. Martinez as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation. The FBI led the investigation with support from the Corpus Christi Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. A criminal complaint is a formal accusation, not evidence. Medina is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
