Kimo Little Bird, Sr., Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child, South Dakota 2021

A federal jury in Aberdeen, South Dakota, has found 40-year-old Kimo Little Bird, Sr., of Little Eagle, guilty of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child, Felony Sex Offense Against a Minor While Required to Register as a Sex Offender, and Tampering with a Witness.

The verdict was returned on November 18, 2021, following a three-day trial. Little Bird, who is required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in September 2006.

The latest convictions carry a maximum penalty of a mandatory minimum of 40 years, up to life in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, five years up to life of supervised release, and a $300 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The investigation into Little Bird’s crimes was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jay Miller and Troy Morley prosecuting the case.

According to court records, Little Bird sexually abused an 11-year-old girl with whom he was residing in 2016. Prior to trial, he attempted to manipulate and corruptly persuade the girl to recant her statement by contacting multiple potential witnesses.

Little Bird was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following the guilty verdict, and a presentence investigation has been ordered. A sentencing date has been set for May 23, 2022.

The guilty verdict in this case serves as a reminder of the gravity of child abuse and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
