Fed Court: Local Man Takes Plea in Domestic Assault Case
Larry Ray Denny, Jr., 46, a Box Elder, Montana resident, has pleaded guilty to a domestic assault charge in a federal court, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced today.
The incident, which took place on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation, occurred on October 15, 2017. According to prosecutors, law enforcement arrived at the victim’s residence and found Denny had physically assaulted her. The evidence would have shown that Denny had indeed hit the victim. Furthermore, Denny has prior convictions for domestic assault, adding to his list of run-ins with the law.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cassady Adams and Ryan Weldon are leading the prosecution of Denny. The case was investigated by the FBI and Chippewa Cree Law Enforcement.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston presided over the hearing, recommending that Denny’s plea be accepted by U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris, who is overseeing the case. Sentencing is set for June 6, with Denny being released pending the final decision.
Denny could face a maximum of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. The outcome of the case will be decided at the sentencing hearing next month.
Details of the incident have not been made public, but it is clear that the case is a serious one. The fact that Denny has pleaded guilty suggests that the evidence against him is substantial.
As the case moves forward, we will continue to provide updates on the situation.
