PITTSBURGH – Larry Christopher Roberts, 48, of Pittsburgh, PA, has been handed a 60-month prison sentence for his role in a drug deal where he used a firearm. United States District Judge Mark R. Hornak imposed the harsh term on Roberts, who was convicted of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents, Roberts distributed and possessed crack cocaine with intent to distribute on or about June 4, 2015. His criminal activities were successfully prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Cindy K. Chung.
The investigation that led to Roberts’ conviction was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office. Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song praised these agencies for their work in this case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at preventing, deterring, and prosecuting gun crimes. Roberts will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
The gritty streets of Pittsburgh have once again been a scene of justice served for the misuse of firearms in drug-related activities. The community expresses hope that such cases will deter potential offenders from engaging in similar violent behavior.
