Danyer Manuel Alarcon Rodriguez, Conspiracy to Steal Credit and Debit Card Numbers, Nevada 2018

Las Vegas, NV – A relentless thief known as the ‘Skimmer King’ has been handed a 61-month sentence for his sinister scheme of installing skimming devices at gas pumps across Nevada and California. Danyer Manuel Alarcon Rodriguez (23) was sentenced today after being convicted of conspiracy to steal thousands of credit and debit card numbers.

Between November 2018 and June 2019, the cunning criminal was a key player in a conspiracy that saw him install at least 27 skimmer devices. These devices siphoned at least 481 stolen card numbers from unsuspecting victims filling up their tanks.

The damage didn’t stop there. Alarcon Rodriguez and his cohort then re-encoded the stolen account information onto counterfeit cards, which they used to make fraudulent purchases and ATM withdrawals. The duo’s antics led to a staggering loss of at least $157,695.51.

Alarcon Rodriguez pleaded guilty in June 2021 to one count of conspiracy, one count of use of unauthorized access device, and one count of aggravated identity theft. In addition to his prison term, U.S. District Judge Jennifer A. Dorsey sentenced him to three years of supervised release and ordered restitution.

His co-defendants, Francisco Rodriguez Gonzalez (35), Juan Luis Sosa Tamayo (32), and Adrian Leyva Tamayo (32), await their fates; Gonzalez pleaded guilty in July 2021, while the others face a jury trial scheduled for July 2022.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Christopher Chiou for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Brian Spellacy of the U.S. Secret Service. The investigation was led by the U.S. Secret Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Schmale prosecuting the case.
