Laurens Woman Accused of Theft of Government Funds
A 31-year-old Laurens woman has been charged with theft of government funds, a federal crime that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Tanesha Williams, of Laurens, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Greenville, South Carolina, on a single-count indictment with theft of government funds, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 641, announced United States Attorney Bill Nettles.
The case was investigated by agents of the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney David C. Stephens of the Greenville office for prosecution.
Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The indictment is merely an accusation, and she will have her day in court to prove her innocence.
