Local Man Admits to Role in Child Abuse Ring

Baltimore, Maryland – In a disturbing case that has left the community reeling, Lawrence Aquilla Colby, IV, a/k/a ‘Buddy,’ age 34, of Elkton, Maryland, pleaded guilty to federal charges related to his participation in a conspiracy to sexually abuse a child.

The abuse, which spanned from the child’s age of approximately four months to two years old, was committed alongside co-conspirator Summer McCroskey. Colby admitted to producing and receiving images documenting the abuse, and possessing child pornography.

According to court documents, Colby and McCroskey worked together to sexually abuse the child, producing videos and images of the abuse. Colby also received files documenting the abuse, which were sent to him by McCroskey.

Colby faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in federal prison for conspiracy to sexually exploit a child and for each of five counts of sexual exploitation of a child; a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for each of three counts of receipt of child pornography; and a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.

Co-defendant Summer McCroskey, age 25, previously pleaded guilty to her role in the conspiracy and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.

United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the FBI, the Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office and the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office for their work in the investigation. Barron also thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul E. Budlow and Colleen E. McGuinn who are prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Lawrence Aquilla Colby, IV is scheduled to be sentenced on July 27, 2023. The community is still reeling from this disturbing case, and Grimy Times will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
