Lawrence George Fast Horse, 35, Sentenced to 23 Months in Prison for Domestic Assault

GREAT FALLS – A Poplar man, Lawrence George Fast Horse, was sentenced to 23 months in prison for assaulting a female on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said. The sentence is followed by 3 years of supervised release.

Fast Horse, 35, pleaded guilty in September 2025 to one count of domestic assault by a habitual offender. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case.

The government alleged that on August 2, 2024, Lawrence George Fast Horse stabbed Jane Doe in Poplar, leaving her with three stab wounds. Responding officers observed a stab wound on Jane Doe’s upper back. An officer searched Fast Horse at the scene and located a knife with brass knuckles attached to it in his right-side shorts pocket.

A witness told law enforcement that Fast Horse and Jane Doe were arguing. She saw Fast Horse push Jane Doe from behind and then noticed him attempt to conceal a blade behind his back. Jane Doe was treated for her injuries and admitted to the hospital for overnight observation.

Fast Horse has a history of domestic assaults, including convictions on June 20, 2008, May 23, 2009, January 27, 2013, October 21, 2019, and October 26, 2020. The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, with the FBI and Fort Peck Tribes Department of Law and Justice conducting the investigation.

The case highlights the importance of addressing domestic violence and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The Fort Peck Indian Reservation is committed to providing support and services to victims of domestic violence.

Fast Horse will serve his sentence in a federal prison, where he will be subject to the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office. The sentence is a result of the hard work and dedication of the investigative team and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
