Armed Bank Robber Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison

A Dedham man has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for his role in an armed bank robbery that occurred in 2014. Lawrence J. Costello, 54, was sentenced to 7 years in prison, 5 years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $17,687 in restitution.

The crime occurred on May 12, 2014, when Costello and another individual entered a Bank of America branch in Attleboro, armed with what appeared to be semi-automatic weapons. Once inside, Costello jumped over the teller’s counter and took $17,687 in cash while holding the tellers at gunpoint.

The men fled the scene in a green Ford pickup truck, which was later recovered and found to have been stolen. During the investigation, law enforcement recovered a pair of red and black gloves that contained Costello’s DNA. He was arrested a few weeks later in Bourne, Massachusetts.

Acting U.S. Attorney William D. Weinreb and other law enforcement officials announced the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth G. Shine prosecuted the case.
