Gulfport, Miss – A Leakesville, Mississippi, man has been hit with a severe sentence for his role in methamphetamine trafficking. Terry Mills, Jr., 21, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. to serve 49 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. The charges stem from Mills’ possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Mills’ criminal activities were particularly brazen, as he sold the deadly substance to an informant on four separate occasions between August 24, 2016, and October 18, 2017. His actions were ultimately brought to justice when he was charged in a federal criminal indictment on July 10, 2018.
On January 23, 2019, Mills admitted his guilt during a guilty plea hearing. Prosecutors estimated that Mills sold between 35 and 50 grams of methamphetamine, a substance known for its devastating effects on communities and individuals alike.
The investigation into Mills’ crimes was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), who worked tirelessly to bring him to justice. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Meynardie handled the prosecution with fervor, ensuring that justice was served.
U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst and Special Agent in Charge Christopher Freeze of the FBI announced the sentencing, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance against drug trafficking. ‘The sentence imposed on Terry Mills demonstrates our commitment to protecting communities from the perils of drug abuse,’ said Hurst.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who engage in illegal drug activities. As Mills begins his sentence, he will have a long road ahead in federal prison, with the hope of reintegration into society after his release on supervised release.
