HARRISBURG – A grim reminder of the digital dangers: Stephen Okamoto, 36, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, was today sentenced to 85 months’ imprisonment for his role in distributing child pornography. The sentence, handed down by United States District Judge Keli M. Neary on June 26, 2025, reflects the severity of Okamoto’s crime.
Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus revealed that an Internet Protocol (IP) address was identified sharing child pornographic material through BitTorrent software. This IP address led law enforcement directly to Okamoto’s residence. A subsequent search warrant executed by FBI agents uncovered electronic devices containing over 1,900 images of child pornography.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Derry Township Police Department collaborated on this investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera was responsible for the prosecution of the case.
This sentence comes as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project unites federal, state, and local resources in identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting individuals who sexually exploit children, as well as locating and rescuing victims.
