Ledesma and Ledesma, Stolen Engine Export, Florida 2023

MIAMI – In a brazen case of engine theft and export, two Miami residents have pled guilty to conspiring to export nearly 600 stolen outboard engines to Mexico.

Carlos Orlando Ledesma, 57, and Nadia Esperanza Ledesma, 46, have admitted to their roles in the conspiracy, which saw them receive almost 600 stolen outboard engines for export to Mexico between 2015 and 2018.

The stolen engines, which had visible damage from the thefts, were delivered to the Ledesmas’ warehouse by dozens of individuals in non-commercial vehicles without bills of sale or any other documentation. The Ledesmas and their co-conspirators then created false bills of sale and submitted false export information to the United States.

Marrero-Cisneros, a co-defendant, created false serial number stickers to place on the stolen outboard engines. Many of the stolen engines were directed to Tomas Vale Valdivia, a co-conspirator who was then in Mexico. Valdivia was sentenced to 57 months for alien smuggling in a separate case.

The cash payments for the stolen engines, totaling millions of dollars, were made by Osmani Valdivia Perez, a co-conspirator and uncle of Tomas Vale Valdivia, to the individuals who stole the outboard engines and to Marrero-Cisneros for the false serial numbers.

Carlos and Nadia Ledesma are set to be sentenced on May 23. Marrero-Cisneros and Valdivia Perez will be sentenced on May 8.

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami, and the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) investigated the case, with assistance from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). Assistant U.S. Attorney Ana Maria Martinez is prosecuting the case.
