LeRoy Smith, Acetyl Fentanyl and Heroin Distribution, LA 2024

New Orleans East resident LeROY SMITH, 33, has been sentenced to 211 months in federal prison followed by 5 years of supervised release for his involvement in a drug conspiracy and firearms violation. Smith pleaded guilty to distributing acetyl fentanyl and heroin, as well as possessing firearms in furtherance of his drug-trafficking activities.

According to court documents, Smith and associates conspired between 2014 and 2015 to distribute large quantities of acetyl fentanyl and heroin across the New Orleans area. Smith ordered significant amounts of fentanyl from a Chinese source, planning to resell it as ‘heroin.’ Law enforcement intercepted two packages containing over one kilogram of fentanyl in April 2015, mailed from China to Smith’s associates.

Upon his arrest on July 13, 2015, Smith was found with heroin, drug paraphernalia, nearly $3,000 in cash, and multiple loaded firearms. U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle handed down the sentence today.

The successful investigation into Smith’s activities was a collaborative effort by several federal and state law enforcement agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Customs and Border Protection, United States Postal Service, Louisiana State Police, New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Kenner Police Department.

Assistant United States Attorneys Brandon S. Long and Nicholas D. Moses were responsible for the prosecution of Smith. The sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the commitment to hold drug traffickers accountable in the city of New Orleans.
