Washington D.C. – In a devastating blow to the nation’s opioid epidemic, 38-year-old Levita Almuete Ferrer has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a massive fentanyl trafficking operation.
According to court documents, Ferrer was part of a sophisticated network that smuggled large quantities of fentanyl into the District of Columbia, resulting in the deaths of numerous individuals.
A federal grand jury indicted Ferrer in 2025, charging him with one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, a Schedule II controlled substance.
During the trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Ferrer had been involved in the trafficking operation since at least 2020, working with a network of associates to smuggle fentanyl into the area.
Ferrer’s defense team, led by attorneys David Schertler, Kondi Jon Kleinman, and Noah Cherry, argued that their client was not a major player in the operation and was simply a small-time dealer.
However, the court ultimately sided with the prosecution, finding Ferrer guilty on all counts. On [DATE], U.S. District Judge [JUDGE’S NAME] sentenced Ferrer to 10 years in federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release.
The sentencing marks a significant victory for law enforcement in the ongoing battle against fentanyl trafficking in the nation’s capital.
“Fentanyl is a deadly poison that has devastated countless families and communities across this city,” said [PROSECUTOR’S NAME], a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. “We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible for this scourge to justice.”
The case is part of a larger effort by federal and local authorities to combat the opioid epidemic in Washington D.C.
