Convicted Felon Caught with Guns
Lewis Tinson, Jr., a 29-year-old Ocala resident, has been taken into custody for violating federal law by possessing firearms as a convicted felon.
According to the indictment, Tinson has a long history of run-ins with the law, including four felony convictions involving firearms. His prior convictions include carjacking with a firearm in 2012, possession of a firearm by a delinquent in 2012, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2018, and shooting at, within, or into a vehicle in 2018.
As a convicted felon, Tinson is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law. However, on August 27, 2021, he was found to be in possession of three firearms and multiple types of ammunition. He was again discovered with another firearm and ammunition on September 6, 2021.
Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk is leading the prosecution of Tinson in federal court. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the nation.
Project Safe Neighborhoods brings together law enforcement agencies and community organizations to tackle the root causes of violence and promote public safety. The program focuses on building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve, supporting community-based initiatives, and setting strategic enforcement priorities.
Tinson faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on each count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He will appear in federal court to face the charges against him.
