Man from Liberal Faces 18 Months for Tax Evasion
A 52-year-old man from Liberal, Kansas, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for tax evasion, according to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.
Sule Braimah pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion, admitting that he filed a joint tax return falsely reporting his 2007 taxable income as $631,166. However, he failed to report another $185,229 in income.
The scheme took place in April 2008, when Braimah filed the false tax return with the IRS. His actions resulted in a significant loss of revenue for the federal government.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the IRS Criminal Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Metzger for their work on the case.
In addition to the prison sentence, Braimah was ordered to pay $188,097 in restitution and fined $20,000.
Braimah’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and a willingness to deceive the government. His sentence serves as a reminder that tax evasion will not be tolerated.
