A federal judge has sentenced a Lincoln man to 25 years in prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana in the Lincoln area. George Lesley Weaver, Jr., 38, of Lincoln, was sentenced to 300 months’ imprisonment by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard on June 5, 2024, for his involvement in the multi-drug trafficking ring.
Weaver’s co-defendant, Anna Idigima, a Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) employee, began stealing drugs from the NSP evidence room in June 2021. She provided the stolen drugs to Weaver, who then sold them in Lincoln. The Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force (LLCNTF) conducted an audit of the NSP evidence storage areas and found that a total of approximately 324 pounds of marijuana, 19 pounds of cocaine, 6 pounds of fentanyl, 10 pounds of heroin, 3 pounds of methamphetamine, 32 pounds of THC, and 1,720 THC vape cartridges were missing.
Investigators searched Weaver’s Snapchat account and found conversations related to drug sales. A search of his apartment on S. 21st Street in Lincoln found residue containing cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana. On August 4, 2021, a married couple overdosed on cocaine laced with fentanyl in Nebraska City. The couple told investigators that they bought the cocaine from a man in Lincoln, who was later identified as Weaver’s source.
The source, who was not named, admitted to selling the cocaine to the couple and said he bought it from Weaver on two occasions in late July and early August 2021. A third victim was also found unconscious and unresponsive near his residence in Lincoln on August 18, 2021. He was given CPR and Narcan and was hospitalized. A search of his car and wallet found approximately four grams of cocaine and fentanyl.
A physician specializing in emergency medicine and toxicology reviewed the medical records of the Nebraska City couple and the Lincoln victim and determined that they would have been at a substantial risk of death had they not received Narcan. The investigation was led by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Narcotics Task Force and the Nebraska State Patrol.
Weaver’s sentence includes an 8-year term of supervised release after his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system. This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to dismantle drug trafficking rings in the Lincoln area.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska commended the work of the investigators and prosecutors who worked on this case. “This sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed by Mr. Weaver and the harm caused to the victims and their families,” said U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr. “We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute those who engage in drug trafficking and related crimes.”
