Flying Bye Faces Up to 15 Years in Custody

Corey Flying Bye, a 25-year-old man from Little Eagle, South Dakota, has been charged with a federal crime following an indictment by a grand jury. United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson made the announcement on March 11, 2014.

The indictment alleges that between December 1, 2013, and January 31, 2014, Flying Bye knowingly engaged in, and attempted to engage in, a sexual act with a victim who had not attained the age of 16. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 15 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, up to life of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Flying Bye appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on March 18, 2014, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy R. Morley prosecuting the case.

Flying Bye was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not been set, but the charge is merely an accusation and Flying Bye is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
