Kansas City Man Charged with Nine Robberies

Kansas City, Kansas – In a shocking display of brazen crime, Llewellyn Richard, 44, of Kansas City, Kansas, has been charged with nine counts of robbery in less than two weeks.

The string of robberies, which took place between December 21 and December 30, 2012, targeted various businesses in the Kansas City area, including Boost Mobile, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Quick Service gas station, Cricket store, and Sally’s Beauty Supply. The crimes often involved Richard walking behind the counter, grabbing a clerk, and demanding money.

In one particularly disturbing incident, Richard allegedly gestured to a clerk as if he had a gun in his jacket pocket and threatened her, saying ‘Don’t look at me! Don’t turn around!’ The clerk felt what she believed to be a gun shoved into her back.

Richard was arrested on January 1, 2013, after a pursuit ended when the truck he was driving crashed. The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead is prosecuting.

If convicted, Richard faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count.
