JAMESVILLE, NEW YORK – In a shocking turn of events, Lloyd F. Martin, Jr., a 68-year-old resident of Jamesville, has pleaded guilty to filing a false income tax return, a felony offense under Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(1).
According to court documents, Martin, the former president of commercial construction company Henderson-Johnson Co., Inc., in Syracuse, New York, failed to report a significant portion of his income from the company on his personal tax returns for the years 2006, 2007, and 2008.
As part of his plea agreement, Martin admitted to receiving income from Henderson-Johnson in the form of payments toward personal expenses, including the purchase and maintenance of a jet airplane. This income was not reported on his tax returns for those years, resulting in a substantial tax deficiency of $184,655.00 to the Internal Revenue Service.
The investigation into Martin’s activities was conducted by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations, in Syracuse, New York. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ransom P. Reynolds.
Martin is now facing a statutory maximum sentence of 3 years imprisonment, a maximum fine of $250,000.00, and restitution to the IRS in the amount of $184,655.00. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 13, 2013, before the Honorable Frederick J. Scullin.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency in financial dealings. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
