Lawrance Arnold, Armed Robbery, District of Columbia 2024

WASHINGTON D.C. – A brazen morning robbery in Northwest Washington turned violent, landing 33-year-old Lawrance Arnold of Washington, D.C. with a seven-year prison sentence. Arnold was sentenced today to 84 months behind bars for shooting a civilian during an armed robbery in the Logan Circle area, according to U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith.

The incident unfolded on November 25, 2023, when Arnold forcibly entered the victim’s apartment near 14th & U Street around 7:20 a.m. The victim, awakened by the intrusion, discovered Arnold rifling through his belongings and stealing his clothes. A confrontation ensued, escalating as the struggle spilled into the hallway. Arnold then allegedly brandished a firearm and shot the victim in the neck before fleeing the scene.

Despite suffering a gunshot wound to the neck, the victim managed to walk to the corner of 14th and V Street Northwest, where he flagged down a passing police officer. Remarkably, the victim provided a detailed description of his assailant, aiding in Arnold’s swift apprehension just several blocks away. The victim positively identified Arnold as the shooter, solidifying the case against him. Arnold pleaded guilty to Armed Robbery in January 2024, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia before the Honorable Michael Ryan.

Investigators didn’t stop there. The firearm used in the Logan Circle shooting was also linked to a separate incident, where Arnold was caught on surveillance footage discharging the same weapon. This connection further cemented the evidence against him and demonstrated a pattern of reckless behavior. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and MPD have been working tirelessly to get dangerous individuals like Arnold off the streets.

U.S. Attorney Graves and Chief Smith praised the diligent work of the Metropolitan Police Department detectives and the dedicated team from the U.S. Attorney’s Office who contributed to the successful prosecution of this case. Special recognition was given to Paralegal Specialist Crystal Waddy for her invaluable assistance throughout the investigation and legal proceedings.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Emmanuel Hampton, who spearheaded the investigation and prosecution, also received commendation for securing the conviction and ensuring Lawrance Arnold faces significant consequences for his violent actions. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by residents and the commitment of law enforcement to protect the community. “Grimy Times” will continue to follow this case and others like it as they move through the system.
