Longtime Friend of Eric Adams, Health Care Fraud, New York 2024

A federal grand jury in New York has indicted William G. Yates, a longtime friend of Mayor Eric Adams, on health care fraud charges.

According to the indictment, Yates allegedly submitted false claims to the Medicare program for services that were not provided or were not medically necessary.

The indictment alleges that Yates and his co-conspirators used a network of shell companies and fake medical providers to submit false claims to Medicare, resulting in losses of over $1 million.

The indictment was unsealed on March 29, 2024, and Yates was arrested and charged with one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and 11 counts of health care fraud.

The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, and the investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
