GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: The hard-hitting drug trade took a hit as Lonnie Jack Trowell, 31, from Lake City, FL, was sentenced to ten years and ten months in federal prison for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine.
In a gritty courtroom drama, U.S. District Judge Henry Lee Adams, Jr., delivered the sentence to Trowell, who had pleaded guilty on March 15, 2019, marking the culmination of an investigation that spanned nearly two years.
According to court documents, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Columbia County Multi-Jurisdiction Drug Task Force were instrumental in dismantling Trowell’s operation. They utilized a confidential source to complete two significant transactions with Trowell, leading to the seizure of methamphetamine on March 27, 2018, and again on May 22, 2018.
The evidence against Trowell mounted when Florida Highway Patrol troopers stopped his vehicle on May 25, 2018. In a search that turned up 51.78 grams of high-purity methamphetamine, a scale used for drug transactions, and four syringes, authorities confirmed the gravity of Trowell’s offense.
Trowell was responsible for distributing a total of 75.59 grams of actual methamphetamine. His criminal history as a Career Offender, which includes convictions for possession with intent to sell or deliver and manufacture of controlled substances, contributed to his lengthy sentence.
This case was a collaborative effort between the DEA, the Columbia County Multi-Jurisdiction Drug Task Force, and the Florida Highway Patrol. Assistant United States Attorney Beatriz Gonzalez led the prosecution. Trowell’s sentence sends a stark message to those who peddle poison on the streets of Lake City.
