James C. Thompson, Minor Transport for Sexual Act, Tennessee 2024

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Chattanooga, Tenn. – A chilling federal indictment has been handed down against James C. Thompson, 71, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, for transporting minors with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

The grand jury’s three-count charge stems from allegations that Thompson transported minors across state lines to commit heinous acts between November 2000 and September 2000. The seasoned suspect appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher H. Steger, entering a plea of not guilty and facing trial on August 12, 2024.

Should Thompson be convicted, the sentence could include up to 15 years in federal prison, $350,000 in fines, and three years of supervised release. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, Francis M. Hamilton III, announced the charges.

The FBI is on high alert, suspecting that more victims may have fallen prey to Thompson’s predatory tactics. Potential targets are believed to be males aged 10 to 15 who were part of youth wrestling programs or hunting organizations. Any individuals with information regarding this case should contact the Chattanooga FBI Office at 423-265-3601 or report it online at tips.fbi.gov.

This investigation is a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Jackson County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office, and Lookout Mountain Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Brooks will represent the United States in this case.

Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse, has been instrumental in bringing Thompson to justice. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.usdoj.gov/psc.
